FAQs About
Salar de Uyuni Two-Day Tours

What is the altitude of the Salar de Uyuni and how can I prepare?

The Salar de Uyuni is at approximately 3,656 meters (11,995 feet) above sea level. We recommend spending a day or two in Uyuni beforehand to acclimatize. Drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol, and consider coca leaves or sorojchi pills for mild altitude sickness symptoms.

Pack warm layers of clothing (temperatures drop significantly, especially at night), a warm hat, gloves, sun protection (high SPF sunscreen, sunglasses, wide-brimmed hat), comfortable walking shoes, a reusable water bottle, camera with extra batteries (charging is limited), personal toiletries, and a small towel. A swimsuit for the hot springs is optional.

Your two-day tour includes one night’s stay in a unique salt hotel. These hotels are constructed almost entirely from salt blocks, offering a memorable and authentic experience right on the edge of the salt flats. Rooms are basic but comfortable, with shared bathrooms. If you’d like a private bathroom or other upgrades, please ask!

Yes, all meals from lunch on Day 1 to lunch on Day 2 are included (1x breakfast, 2x lunch, 1x dinner). Please inform us of any dietary restrictions (vegetarian, vegan, allergies, etc.) well in advance, and we will do our best to accommodate them.

While our two-day tour has a set itinerary covering key highlights, we are happy to discuss customizations or specific interests whenever possible. For more extensive changes, please contact us about a private, custom-designed tour.

Due to the remote nature of the Salar de Uyuni and surrounding areas, Wi-Fi and phone signal are generally not available during most of the tour, especially at the salt hotel. This offers a great opportunity to disconnect and fully immerse yourself in the landscape.

Bolivian Bolivianos (BOB) are essential for any personal purchases (souvenirs, snacks, drinks not included). While most major expenses are covered, it’s advisable to carry a small amount of local cash for incidentals and extra entrance fees, as ATMs are rare once you leave Uyuni.

Restroom facilities are basic and sparse once you leave Uyuni town. There are often facilities at a few key stops, including the salt hotel, but during parts of the journey, “nature’s bathroom” might be the only option. Your guide will advise accordingly.
