Sajama Trekking Tour
Overview & Itinerary

This 4-day Sajama trekking adventure begins in the quiet village of Sajama, where time seems to stand still among adobe houses and a 16th-century stone church. From there, the journey unfolds into a blend of cultural history and breathtaking nature. You’ll walk through ancient valleys, soak in thermal hot springs, and explore geysers that bubble at 4,400 meters, before trekking to two spectacular high-altitude lakes near the Chilean border. These first experiences set the tone for the days ahead: a mix of Andean tradition and wild, untamed landscapes.

The highlight of the trek comes on day three with the ascent of Huisalla Peak, where panoramic views stretch across Sajama Volcano, the twin cones of Parinacota and Pomerape, and deep into Chilean territory. Evenings offer a chance to relax in natural hot springs, watching the colours of sunset shift across the mountains. On the final day, the return to La Paz is made richer by a stop at Curahuara de Carangas, home to one of South America’s oldest churches and a masterpiece of Andean religious art known as the “Sistine Chapel of the Andes.”
